Strathspey Thistle boss Ryan Esson will be using a rare break in the gruelling Highland League schedule to marshal his side.

The Grantown outfit has been buoyed by two great results in recent weeks which have reaped four points.

The arrival this past week of former Inverness Caley defender Wallace Duffy - who was laid off by the club’s new administrators - has also added to the belief that the club is starting to put their struggles behind them.

Esson intends to drill his team on their formations and set piece plays as he looks to make the most of some quality time on the training ground.

Three sessions have been lined up for the squad who train at Inverness Royal Academy and Charleston Academy in the Highland capital.

He also has the luxury of working with almost a full squad for the first time since taking over as manager at Seafield Park.

He said: “The last two to three weeks is the first time that I have had the full squad together with the exception of long term absentees Jordan Laidlaw and Alan Kerr who both have knee injuries and Scot Docherty who broke his leg against Clach at home in the Highland League Cup in mid-September although he is not far away from training.

“For the first seven weeks I was in, the squad was depleted and it was injury after injury but it seems that we have now got through that spell and we no longer have games Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday.

“We now have time to get some training sessions in and to implement some of our drills and other plans.

“We then have a run of three good games before a free week after that which will allow us to reassess and reset.”

Esson added: “I have had this week in my head for a while now as I knew I can get some proper training sessions in with the players.”

The Jags picked up a well deserved point at home to Fraserburgh in a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
