Jags boss Ryan Esson believes that his players ran themselves into the ground in their 4-1 win away at Keith.

Having looked at the GPS stats, he was not surprised that his side was unable to repeat their performance of a few days earlier in their 4-1 home reverse to Turriff United.

With ex-Scottish FA Chief Executive, Scotland international and Rangers striker Gordon Smith the VIP for the match, Thistle got off to the worst possible start.

They conceded three quick fire goals inside the opening 25 minutes of the final league game of the season.

“The boys had put so much effort into the Keith game,” said Esson.

“When I looked at the GPS numbers it is the highest they have done in terms of distance covered and high speed running.”

“I knew that after the effort thry put in on Wednesday and the volume of games they have played this past month that we were going to struggle on Saturday.

“That was our 15th game in just over two months.

“However, I had hoped that they would keep the ball better but we never got going at all.”

The manager’s attention has now already switched to the 2025/26 campaign with Esson confirming that he was remaining at Seafield Park.
