WATCH: As Cairngorm funicular carries its first skiers and snowboarders for 18 months
It has been a smooth running return for the Cairngorm funicular today after a lay-off of over 18 months.
The long-awaited first train left the Base Station at 9am for the Ptarmigan top station.

A spokeswoman for operators Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd said: “It’s been a very smooth first day with snowsports customers including school groups, and also families just wanting to experience a ride on the train and see the views.
“Some of the young children were very excited by the views on the train and how high up they were going.”
She added: “It has been great for the school groups and Disability Snowsports UK to be able to do more with access to the Ptarmigan.
“It has been a lovely, bright day with both the Ptarmigan Tow and Polar Express open at the top together with a light offering in the restaurant.
“Trains have been running regularly throughout the day and customers have been very appreciative to have the train back and for the efforts of our operations team in moving the snow around to provide a better experience at the top.”
