Highland Council now has legal advice on controversial short term lets control area for strath

An announcement is moving closer on the future of a controversial short term let control area for Badenoch and Strathspey.

The policy has been in limbo since the summer as Highland Council awaits legal advice following findings made at Scotland's highest civil court.

Operators would be required to gain change of use planning permission in order to continue operating their short term lets if the new powers come into force as proposed.

A spokesperson for Highland Council said: "The council has now received a legal opinion in relation to short term lets which is currently being reviewed.

"A decision will then be taken on how best to proceed with the proposed short-term let control area for Badenoch and Strathspey."

The restrictions were due to come into force in June but were pulled at the 11th hour by the council after a ruling for similar proposals for Edinburgh at the Court of Session.
