Grantown cycle festival is up and rolling with lots of free activities
A cycling festival in Grantown is kicking into gear from today with a host of free events for biking enthusiasts.
The Wheels around Grantown Cycling Festival started yesterday and continues until this Sunday (April 13).
Off-road cycles, bike maintenance courses, a bikes skills session, try an e-trike and cycling related films are amongst the activities on offer.
Spokesman Mike Barras said: “"The festival aims to raise the profile of cycling in Grantown and Strathspey, bring together different cycling groups, increase skill levels, launch new initiatives and be inclusive.
“There are lots of free events so everyone should be able to find something of interest, whether it is the history of cycling, going on a ride, trying a bike, watching a film or learning how to maintain your bike.”
More details on the festival can be found at https://www.wheelsaroundgrantown.org.uk/events and a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WheelsAroundGrantown
Mr Barras said: “Longer term, the website will remain to promote routes and trails around Grantown on road, MTB and gravel - this is very much a work in progress at present.”
There will be three very different films about cycling on film night - 'The Wrong Guys' - cycling up Kilimanjaro on a hand cycle; 'Woman Up' - reflections on barriers to taking up cycling and 'Great British Gravel Rides' - a documentary about gravel riding and riders.
