Plans to renovate Grantown’s Dulaig Park could soon reach an important milestone.

Two recent funding wins mean that the project is close to achieving its £60,000 target for buying new play equipment for the under 12s.

The committee now hopes to surpass that total after a community cake sale next Saturday (September 25).

The fundraising event will feature cakes from local businesses, including KJ’s Bothy Bakery, Just Delicious and Grantown Diner.

Organisers are also looking for baking donations from local residents to sell on the day.

Chairwoman Sheena Corcoran said: “It’s exciting to be so close to our target after so much hard work by residents. Their fundraising efforts have been vital in getting the project to this point.

“We hope that everyone can help us reach that amazing goal of £60,000 by supporting our cake sale, either by donating their own creations or making a purchase on the day.”

The Dulaig Park project was recently awarded £2000 towards play equipment by the Mushroom Trust, which supports the improvement of greenspaces in Scotland.

And a further £2183 was pledged by Cash for Kids, the official charity of Bauer Media.

The grant will go towards an accessible roundabout at Dulaig Park.

It is now hoped that playpark providers Kompan will create a plan for the new look park before the end of the year, with the community being consulted on the final layout.

The committee also intends to start fundraising for the second phase of works – improvements to the playing field.

The Dulaig Park Cake Sale will take place at 9 Rhuarden Court, Grantown, on Saturday, September 25, 10am-noon.

Anyone who wishes to donate cakes can contact organisers by emailing dulaigcakes@hotmail.com or visit the Facebook page Dulaig Park Renovation.
