FORMER Inverness Caledonian Thistle defender Wallace Duffy has signed for Highland League club Strathspey Thistle.

The 25-year-old, who was one four players made redundant at Inverness last week after the League One outfit fell into administration, has signed a three-year deal with the Grantown on Spey club.

Duffy was released by Inverness Caledonian Thistle after his contract expired at the end of last season, but returned to the club in August when he agreed a two-year-deal.

However, last week, BDO who have been appointed administrators of Caley Thistle, made Duffy redundant as part of its cost cutting measures.

Other players who were made redundant included Adam Brooks, Flynn Duffy and Cameron Ferguson.

Goalkeeper Jack Newman also saw his loan deal terminated as he returned to Premiership club Dundee United.

Duffy spent two periods at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, originally signing in 2020 from St Johnstone and spent four seasons at the club before leaving at the end of last season, but returned in August.

He played in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic in June last year when he was arguably Caley Thistle’s best player in the 3-1 defeat.

Strathspey Thistle boss Ryan Esson, who ended a 16-year association with Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of last season as a player and coach, before becoming manager at Seafield Park in August, is delighted to capture Duffy’s signature.

He said: “We’re really pleased to add Wallace to the squad. His experience and knowledge will be a huge benefit to all our players, and I’m thrilled he’s agreed to join us. Having worked with him before at Inverness, I know exactly what he brings to the table, and I’m confident he’ll be an important part of what we’re building here.”

It was also confirmed yesterday that defender Flynn Duffy, who was also made redundant from Inverness last week, has signed for Championship club Airdrieonians.
