Norman MacArthur, joint manager of Newtonmore, said now was the right time to stand down from the role.

Newtonmore first team co-managers Norman MacArthur and Evan Cheyne have both made the decision to step down.

The Eilan club hopes to confirm their new boss in mid December.

The Blue and Whites finished in fifth place this season with nine victories, seven losses and two draws although they were just two points off runners-up Caberfeidh.

A club statement read: “Taking effect from the end of the 2024 season, Norman MacArthur and Evan Cheyne have made the decision to step down from their current first team coaching positions but they will continue in their other volunteering roles within the club.

“We would like to take this opportunity to offer huge and sincere thanks to them both for all their hard work and commitment, and for their dedication to develop the team over the last three seasons.

“During their tenure, Norman and Evan have continued to focus on fitness and skills training, and they have built a resilient, strong squad and fostered a great team spirit.

“They have created an admirable platform for a new coaching team to take over.”

MacArthur told the Strathy: “We both felt the time was right and this early decision gives the club time to get a new management team in place.

“We could have carried on for another year, but we would just be in this same situation in 12 months’ time so now is the perfect time to make the change.

“It’s our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 11 December 2024 and we hope to be in a position to put a new appointment forward to the AGM.”
