Kingussie colts co-manager John Gibson has sent a warning to his side despite progressing in the HIS Sutherland Cup.

The Red and Blues came from behind to beat Beauly 3-1 at the Dell on Saturday in the first round.

But Beauly had the better chances in the first half as the Kings struggled to find their rhythm.

Gibson said: “We are happy to be in the next round and the second half performance was very good but if we start a game like that again we will suffer for it.

“However the club has had a lot of injuries recently across both teams which has had an effect on consistent team selections.

“Everyone in the second team squad is giving 100 per cent and that is all we ever ask and they are a really good group to be involved with.

“We will be working hard again in training this week and we are looking forward to another big game this Saturday on the Dell.’

Hayden Taylor Ramsey in goals and Macleod Dawson at full back worked hard to keep the men in green out but despite their efforts Leo Bain gave the visitors a deserved lead on 39 minutes which they carried into the break.

Kingussie rang the changes at half time and Liam Borthwick came on for his first appearance of the season following wrist surgery and Garry Munro joined the fray at full forward.

Borthwick brought composure to the middle of the park and to those around him and the hosts started to play for the first time in the game.

Miko Berowski, also making his first appearance of the season following injury, equalised on 52 minutes with a fine strike from distance.

Kingussie were well in the ascendency now and when a Rory Muro run in to the box was stopped illegally on 70 minutes referee Bart Bukowski awarded Kingussie a penalty.

Rory’s dad Garry stepped up and made no mistake with a rocket from the spot.

Not to be outdone Rory fired in to the top corner of the goals on 83 minutes to see Kingussie in to the next round - and to stay ahead of his father in the scoring charts.

Kingussie also have home advantage in the second round of the Sutherland against Caberfeidh on Saturday 10 May while they host Fort William seconds in the Strathdearn Cup first round this weekend.

Meanwhile Newtonmore’s second team beat Inverness first team 4-1 at the Bught Park outside pitch to move up to second in the division. ‘More, with Duncan MacPherson in defence, made a great start with Aaron MacBean netting in the second minute and further first half goals followed from Kyle Clark and Glen Mackintosh.

Ewen Neilson countered soon after the restart but a second from Glen Mackintosh rounded off the 4-1 win. ‘More travel to face Boleskine in the Strathdearn Cup first round on Saturday.
