Kingussie’s quest for a fourth successive WM Donald MacTavish Cup success reached the semi-finals stage after an early goals blitz saw off Skye Camanachd 5-1 at the Dell on Saturday.

Red and Blues manager Iain Borthwick was delighted with his team’s first half performance but less so with the second 45 minutes.

He said: “We played really well in the first half and maybe could have scored more but we seemed to go through the motions after that.

“Thomas Borthwick is flying in the full centre role whilst Ruaridh Anderson gives everyone lift with his return.”

Ruaridh Anderson was indeed back in the side but George Taylor Ramsay faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken metatarsal and ligament damage against Fort William the previous week.

The game came too soon for Rory MacKeachan who has a hamstring issue but Liam Borthwick returned from the bench following injury.

Skye travelled without half their defence with both James Morrison and Ryan Harrison absent.

There was an early goals glut as Roddy Young gave Kingussie a second minute lead but Dan MacDonald levelled just 60 seconds later.

Ryan Borthwick and another from Roddy Young continued the early scoring blitz with just 10 minutes played and Thomas Borthwick added a fourth and Roddy Young completed his hat-trick, all before the break.

Skye boss Kenny MacLeod reflected: “It was a tough start and truthfully, the game was over in the first 10 minutes.

“Some uncharacteristic decision-making saw us punished heavily, gifting four goals with defending that just wasn’t recognisable.”

This coming Saturday, Kingussie have an Artemis Macaulay Cup first round tie against Kinlochshiel at Rèaraig.
