Kings boss Borthwick would love Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-final switch
Kingussie forward Savio Genini was the hero for the second consecutive weekend after bagging a late winner in a tight 3-2 win to progress to the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-final.
He netted the crucial opening goal in last week’s WM Donald MacTavish Cup triumph.
And Genini proved to be the difference again, this time bagging the winner at Balgate on Saturday to set up an eagerly anticipated last four tie against neighbours Newtonmore.
Rory MacKeachan started in the Kingussie defence in place of Sam Thain whilst Ryan Borthwick was preferred in attack to Genini who dropped onto the bench.
Dylan Borthwick gave the holders an early lead but despite dominating the opening period, the holders could not add to their tally and Greg Matheson punished them with a leveller just before the break.

A second from Dylan Borthwick put Kingussie back in front but a contested penalty drew Lovat level for a second time.
There was no doubt Kingussie keeper Rory McGregor upended Lovat danger-man Greg Matheson as he burst through on goal but the Kings were convinced the offence took place outside the area.
However, referee Iain Kennedy pointed to the spot after consulting the goal judge and Callum Cruden converted with a rasping strike to make it 2-2.
The tie could have gone either way before Genini’s defining strike five minutes from time.
Kingussie manager Iain Borthwick said: “It turned out to be a good game and we were flying during the first half-hour and could have been five or six goals ahead had it not been for their keeper Ronan Macmillan.
“We had a lot of shots off-target too.
“Lovat started to come back into the game and Greg Matheson always looked dangerous and very much up for it, causing us a few problems and he took his goal well.
“The second half was more end-to-end but we had a bit more of the play.
“Their keeper made some more cracking saves and Lovat had a few chances which “Bob” dealt with brilliantly.
“Dylan took his second goal well and could of easy had a hat-trick if it wasn’t for their goalie.
“I thought the foul for their penalty was just outside the D, and a few Lovat supporters agreed.
“It could have gone either way after that, so we were so relieved to see Savio’s strike finally find the net.
“The semi-final against Newtonmore should be a cracker, and we will need to be on our game for that.
“It’s scheduled for Braeview Park in Beauly but I just wish both clubs could have a toss of the coin and play it at either The Dell or The Eilan.”
This weekend, Kingussie return to Mowi Premiership action when they play Kinlochshiel at The Dell.
