The Highland main line is a favourite route for the retro railways - as demonstrated by Alan Cummings in the recent Channel 4 hit series ‘Scotland’s Poshest Train’ - and before that the eventful trip of both Flying Scotsman and The Royal Scotsman to Aviemore.

Tomorrow’s date for spotters will feature the exquisite Midland Pullman, which has recreated Britain’s first luxury high-speed diesel-electric train which ran so successfully in the early 1960s.

The Midland Pullman HST is heading to Scotland tomorrow from Leicester and will pass through a number of places on its way, including the north of England on its way to the Highland capital.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We are delighted to present a three-day weekend break to the Highlands of Scotland travelling over the scenic Highland line to Inverness, plus a return journey over the spectacular and remote route to Kyle of Lochalsh.”

The seats have for some while been fully booked, but there will be plenty of thrills for the public along the route as they gather with their binocs and cameras.
