Santa won't make it to Aviemore steam event
Strathspey Steam Railway has had to cancel Santa's ticket for 2020.
The company has posted today: "After very careful consideration, we have concluded that we will not be able to operate our popular Santa Express Steam Trains in 2020."
The popular railway's website explained that the decision had been taken for safety reasons during the coronavirus pandemic.
Its Santa Steam Trains have operated for many years based on a Festive atmosphere which includes singing, Elves and lots of interaction with Santa himself, but a company spokesperson admitted: "We do not believe it is possible to safely deliver the best visitor experience within the current Covid -19 guidelines issued by the Scottish Government.
"We recognise that this will be upsetting news for many of our passengers, however, the safety and satisfaction of our visitors, staff and volunteers is paramount."
The railway hopes to welcome Santa back in 2021.
"In the meantime we plan to operate Festive Afternoon Teas and Mince Pie Special Trains on the following dates in December – 5th/6th, 12th/13th, 19th – 23rd and 29th – 31st as well as 1st/2nd January 2021."
The railway's website has full details of timetables, fares and facilities, including 1st Class and Catering options.
