Emergency services at 'serious' A9 crash near Carrbridge





Motorists are reporting hectic activity at a crash scene on the A9 by Carrbridge.

"I'm about 400 metres from the site," said lorry driver Trevor Ross, "and two helicopters have arrived along with three fire units, ambulances and a few police vehicles.

"We don't know just what's happened yet but we think two vehicles are involved and there may be fatalities. There would certainly seem to be injuries.

"We're just waiting for news about the road."

He sent an update a few minutes ago.

"Aberdeen air ambulance just left the scene with, I'm guessing, the most critical casualty or casualties. Glasgow air ambulance has no left with another."

Highland & Islands Police confirm: "Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious road crash on the A9 near its junction with A938 south of Carrbridge.

"Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Police were called around 11.40am today."

Traffic Scotland confirm that there are A9 closures now at both the north and south ends of the Badenoch and Strathspey stretch.

Minutes ago all lanes on the road was closed in both north and southbound directions.

Meanwhile another incident blocked traffic on the A889/A9 Dalwhinnie at the railway bridge.

All northbound and southbound lanes were closed earlier today but Traffic Scotland has now removed the 'closed' notification. More information on what happened earlier today is still awaited.
