Trains back to normal after disruption

Rail services returned to normal yesterday after travellers’ bank holiday plans were thrown into chaos at the weekend following damage to overhead power lines which halted some services.

Journeys on the East Coast main line were affected.

On Saturday the 9.40am train from Inverness to London’s King Cross had to be terminated at Grantham in Lincolnshire and the 12pm train to Inverness from London’s King Cross was delayed until 1.30pm.

Sunday’s 9.40am train from Inverness to London’s King Cross was terminated at Edinburgh due to an overhead power problem in York.

Service operator East Coast said the damaged lines caused disruption to 70 of its 102 scheduled services.

A spokesman said that all services were returned to normal yesterday.
