A TRIO of woman have stepped up to the challenge of walking 13 miles across Inverness in a bid to raise money for cancer care in the Highlands.

Mina Black (43), her daughter Donna Black (19) and close friend Hazel Cusack (42) will be donning their trainers on June 4 to take part in the annual Bra Nicht Walk.

The Bra Nicht Walk has already raised in the region of £130,000 in the previous three years for cancer patients in the Highlands.

The three woman, who have named themselves the "Booby Busters" have decided to take part in the walk for the first time this year.

Mina, of Balnain Farm, Dunain, Inverness, said: "I’ve never done it before, but reading about what all the money that is raised goes towards is really gearing us up for the challenge."

And she said doing the walk to help raise cash for cancer care is something she holds close to her heart.

She commented: "I lost my mother to bowel cancer 21 years ago so I know what sufferers and their families go through. It was a very hard time.

"So it’s important that everyone helps out in any way they can and that’s why my daughter and I have decided to take part, as well as Hazel.

"Unfortunately, most people know someone or are related to someone who has or has gone through cancer, so I think raising money and taking part in the race is a really good thing to do."

But the three women are far from nervous and are really looking forward to the big night.

Mina said: "We’re raising as much money as we possibly can just through the help of family and friends, but we are really looking forward to the night itself. Hopefully we’ll have a good time whilst taking part too."

ENTRIES CLOSE ON TUESDAY

ORGANISERS are encouraging walkers to sign up fast as the closure for entering is May 31.

The event is part of an annual effort to raise thousands of pounds for the fight against breast cancer.

And the Highland News Group is pleased to lend its support as official partner of the Bra Nicht Walk 2011.

The 13-mile walk through the streets of Inverness will take place on June 4, from 10pm onwards.

Entry forms are available from the Eastgate Centre, Inverness Leisure or www.branichtwalk.com
