Skin and bone Millie abandoned in Aberlour

A BADLY emaciated dog was found abandoned in Aberlour.

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after the female Staffordshire bull terrier cross was discovered by a member of the public in the town’s Alice Little Park.

The dog has been named Millie by staff at the Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Inverness.

Scottish SPCA Senior Inspector Lesley Crockett said: "The dog was found wandering by herself in the park in a very poor condition.

"She is only seven kilos which is around half her ideal weight and she has been kept in a dirty environment as she has sores on her legs and paws, probably caused by urine burns.

"We think she is around a year old and, despite her health, she is a friendly, well behaved dog."

Millie was wearing a red collar but had no identity tag and she isn’t microchipped.

"We want to identify whoever owned her as they obviously did not care for her properly and allowed her health to deteriorate a great deal," added Inspector Crockett.

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life and could face a substantial fine.
