Local farmer named as victim of Loch Ness-side death crash

By Donald Wilson

THE victim of a fatal road accident on the A82 south of Drumnadrochit on Saturday has been named as local farmer Thomas Evan Girvan (37) from Glenmoriston.

He died from injuries at the scene when his car collided with German tour bus carrying a party of schoolchildren. His dog also died in the crash.

Police are currently carrying out a collision investigation and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw a black volvo or silver bus driving in the area before 12.45 on Saturday to contact their nearest police station on 0845 600 5703.

Emergency services attended the scene.

There were 22 people on the bus, two of whom sustained minor injuries and were taken to Raigmore Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours to allow recovery of the vehicles and a diversion was put in place but it re-opened later that afternoon.
