'Something for all' as Moy Country Fair approaches
With just over one week to go until the Moy Country Fair 2023, the popular Highland summer event has "a more varied and exciting roster of activities than ever before," say organisers.
Taking place at Moy Estate near Inverness on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th August, the fair has something for all ages with a diverse mix of family friendly exhibitors and performers as well as its traditional focus on field sports.
It will also showcase the very best of Scottish food and drink with the return of the Food Tent and Food Theatre, in partnership with Inverness-based wood burning stove specialists Bonk & Co.
Professional chef and presenter Christopher Trotter will be offering cooking demonstrations regularly throughout the two days using fresh ingredients from local producers in the Food Theatre. At the end of each demonstration there will be a collection for Maggie’s Highland.
For the first time, the Fair is welcoming the Highland Food and Drink Trail, an Inverness-based street food collective who will be bringing along several street-style food vendors from around the north of Scotland.
"As well as an exceptional food and drink line-up for visitors to explore, there will be the traditional Main Ring activities sponsored by Galbraith, including falconry, gun dog handling, the terrier racing sponsored by Saffery Champness," said James Campbell, chairman of the fair's committee, "and the pet parade sponsored by ANTA Scotland.
"There will also be a spectacular performance from Savage Skills, the UK’s leading freestyle mountain bike stunt team who will be providing two arena performances of their BMX show each day."
As ever, there will be opportunities for visitors to participate in various field sports including fly casting demos at Angler’s Corner sponsored by You Fish Scotland, clay shooting, rifles, the gun dog scurry, archery and axe throwing – a new addition to this year’s line-up of field sports.
Younger field sports enthusiasts can participate in the Junior MacNab challenge. Hosted by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation, the popular event invites children to participate in a clay pigeon shooting, air rifle shooting and fly-fishing challenge.
Strathallan School will be sponsoring the junior clay shooting competition prizes as well as a new category – parent/grandparent and child.
Organisers are particularly excited for families to visit the Children’s Corner which has lots of fun activities for people of all ages to enjoy including bouncy castles, sumo suits, a storyteller, giant lawn games and music sensory sessions.
Mr Campbell added: “We are proud to be delivering a two-day event that celebrates traditional field sports, but also the many wonderful things the Highlands has to offer. This year’s Fair is set to welcome a huge variety of exhibitors, charities, performers, competitors and local businesses, so-much-so that our diverse list of exhibitors is continuing to grow even as we move into the final week of preparations.”
The growing list of exhibitors includes a range of different businesses, charities and organisations, from Highland Hospice and the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust to Aloe Vera Highland and Dornoch Distillery Company. For a full list of exhibitors please see the list in the notes to editors.
