Kingussie meeting next week into public views on St Vincent’s Hospital cash
Another meeting is being staged in the strath to discuss the way forward for the Burall bequest - over £300k left to St Vincent’s Hospital in Kingussie nearly a quarter of a century ago.
Local campaigners wanting to see the remaining monies spent in Badenoch - with the hospital long closed and now set to be reserved for housing development by the new owners Highland Council - are hoping for a big turnout from the public at the Iona Gallery in Duke Street on Thursday week (June 12) from 10am.
The meeting is being staged by Highland Health Board Endowment Funds Charity, who are responsible for administering the Burall Fund. The late Theresa Burall of Seattle left a fortune to the Badenoch hospital as a thank you for the excellent service it had given to friends.
There is much local interest over just where the money went, how much is left and where it is going to be spent.
The meeting next week is a community engagement session following up the Aviemore meeting staged in the Hub, which has restricted seating compared with the Iona Gallery.
No prior application or ticketing is required.
On behalf of the local campaign, Dr Mary Anderson told the Strathy: “They are keen to have local people's contributions with ideas and suggestions as to how this money might be spent.”
Further details about the Highland Health Board Endowment Fund Charity and the Burall Fund can be found at Burall Legacy Fund Engagement. People are also still able to contribute ideas for use of this money, if they cannot attend this public meeting, by completing the survey available until June 13.
