Highland health worker recognised with top award
A Highland health worker who helps grieving families in their time of need has been recognised with a top award.
The latest recipient of a Highland Quality Approach (HQA) award lives and breathes the values of NHS Highland and is a "jewel" to the organisation, a spokesperson for the health body has claimed.
Claire McCall, bereavement officer for Raigmore Hospital, has been described as an "excellent ambassador" for the way she supports families and relatives at their most vulnerable time.
Claire was nominated by Linda Kirkland, director of quality, and Iona McGauran, interim lead nurse for Raigmore.
Mrs McGauran said: "The bereavement service is new for NHS Highland and, while initially appointed to help with the new death certification process, Claire has quickly adapted to the role and made it her own.
"Whether it be quietly supporting a grieving relative, looking for volunteer knitters to provide tiny baby clothes or starting a fundraising campaign to enable the mortuary viewing room to be decorated and upgraded making it a more pleasant environment for families.
"The feedback from families, funeral directors and staff on the impact Claire has had since she has been in post, how she conducts herself and carries out her role has been impressive and really reinforces what an asset she is to the organisation."
