Members of the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of four Mexicans overnight.

Four Mexican e-bikers were rescued in the early hours of this morning after getting into difficulties in the Cairngorms.

The operation was complicated by none of them speaking English.

Eighteen members of Braemar Mountain Rescue Team were first scrambled around 8.15pm last night.

“One of the Mexicans, a woman, had injured her ankle and was unable to carry on,” said Malcolm MacIntyre, the rescue team’s operations manager.

“They were about 400 metres (1312 feet) up east of the River Eidart and it was unpleasant conditions – cold squally showers.

“They spoke no English and had hired the e-bikes – and were based in Aviemore.

“It was a logistical challenge getting a load of e-bikes extracted.

“But a big shout-out to two other bikers who put up their tent for the group and sheltered them until we got there.

“Eventually we managed to use our vehicles to get them all off and back to base around 1.20am. It was some challenge.”
