Today’s Badenoch Bikeathon - the 31st in its magnificent charitable history - defied the weather and raised a few thousand pounds for good causes.

The precise total has yet to be confirmed but the number of entrants alone ensured that there would be a fine payout to Mikeysline, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and Kingussie High School.

Numbers may well have been down on the usual turnout, but there were still said to be 180-plus participants involved in the various courses which were available.

The event was broadcast live on Speysound Radio, who also provided plenty of entertainment at the finishing post in the grounds of the Duke of Gordon Hotel.

A team of students provided some excellent smoothies for all those thirsty homecomers and the home bakers of the local Emergency Medical Equipment Fund had laid on a superb collection of cakes and cookies to ensure that nobody went home hungry.

And last night a highly enjoyable ceilidh had been staged in the hotel for participants and friends alike of all ages.

We should have an update on the success of the event in Thursday’s Strathy.
