Spey Valley Rotarians’ praise for Aviemore schoolchildren after ‘Aquabox’ effort
The children of Aviemore Primary School have spearheaded a remarkable fundraising effort, the Walk4Water Aquabox appeal, joining forces with the Rotary Club of Spey Valley.
The aim of the appeal is to help provide safe drinking water and humanitarian aid to communities worldwide affected by natural disasters, extreme weather, and conflicts.
The appeal has raised well over £1100 so far.
For the Rotarians, Alan Rankin explained: “Millions globally lack access to clean water for basic necessities like drinking, cooking, and washing. Aquabox, a charity dedicated to addressing this critical need, provides essential aid, including highly effective family filters capable of converting up to half a million litres of polluted water into safe, clean water, offering hope to desperate people in crisis zones.”
The appeal was created by the children of Aviemore Primary School themselves, who conceived the idea of walking to collect water and returning it to the school. That poignant act was a dramatic illustration that for countless children less fortunate, water does not simply come from a tap.
“Through this hands-on experience, the pupils gained a profound understanding of the challenges faced by others and the vital importance of clean water,” said Mr Rankin.
“We met with pupils early on in the planning process for the appeal and remain so impressed by the enthusiasm shown in the planning and today on what was a long walk to collect water from a stream.”
Pam Cairns, president of the Rotary Club of Spey Valley, echoed the sentiment: “Well done and congratulations to the pupils, staff, parents and Rotary volunteers who supported the Walk4Water Appeal. Every pound raised can and will make a difference to children less fortunate and facing challenges in places of crisis around the world”
“It was an incredible event,” agreed Jess Creber, acting depute headteacher at Aviemore Primary School and Early Learning Centre.
“The Rights Respecting Schools group have been motivated the whole way through organising the fundraiser. The children across the school have really grasped why we need to raise money for the Aquabox and the children have shown determination and commitment to the cause.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who came out and made the day possible.'
The appeal JustGiving page remains open for until June 30.
