Carrbridge Post Office has not closed permanently

Concerns over the future of Carrbridge’s Post Office counter have been allayed.

The Spar Shop, which houses the PO service run by postmaster David Johnstone, posted on social media on Tuesday that ‘as of today folks, David has quit’.

There was also a picture of a notice at the shop announcing that the Post Office was closed permanently ‘until further notice. Sorry’.

Reaction was immediate from the community, wishing Mr Johnstone well and fearing for the future of the village’s vital Post Office facility.

A spokesperson at the shop told the Strathy: “No idea yet as it’s early days.

"We will see if we can get cover.

"David is fine.”

A Post Office spokesperson has since confirmed: “Carrbridge is currently short-term temporarily closed due to staffing issues.

“It is hoped that the branch will re-open later this month, possibly next week.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“In the interim alternative branches include Boat of Garten, Dulnain Bridge and Aviemore.”
