MacDonald on target for Newtonmore

The Kingussie and Newtonmore second teams pitched a perfect advert for midweek shinty as ‘More claimed two Mowi North Division 1 points following their 5-4 win at The Dell.

Newtonmore led four times, but Kingussie pegged them back each time ahead of James Coyle’s winning goal, his second of the game.

Kingussie and Newtonmore maintained their respective title challenges in the Mowi Premiership with important victories. Newtonmore twice trailed Fort William but Drew MacDonald and Iain Robinson countered on each occasion.

Joe Coyle scored the winner in the final minute, and his manager Peter Ross said: “The winning goal is what we’ve come to expect from Joe, and I thought Matthew Sloss was the best player on show.”

Fort William’s defeat gave Kingussie the opportunity to return to the top of the table and they took it, defeating Kinlochshiel 3-0 through second half strikes from Dylan Borthwick and two-goal Ruaridh Anderson.

Badenoch B are within touching distance of the Mowi National League title after doubles from Kate McAdam and Lexi Farquhar sealed a 4-2 win over second placed Dunadd.
