WATCH: The Cairngorms 4000s are conquered in memory of Carrbridge mum Caroline
The Cairngorms 4000 have been conquered by a new mum and her brothers in memory of their beloved mum.
Yasmin Harrower, of Aviemore, and her siblings took on the arduous high tops hike in the Cairngorms at the weekend.
It will be 10 years at the end of this August since well-known Caroline Harrower passed away after losing her battle to a glioblastoma brain tumour.
Caroline used to run the popular Ark Animal Supplies in Grantown along with husband Martin.
After taking a well-deserved breather after the epic fundraiser, Yasmin confirmed to the Strathy the family and the Highland Hospice beneficiary had ‘summit’ to celebrate.
She said: “We did it - we conquered the Cairngorm 4000s!
“Saturday was a tough but beautiful day that really tested our limits.
“We covered 32.8 kilometres in distance, 65,000 steps and the whole hike took 16 hours and 40 minutes to complete.”
Yasmin continued: “We were lucky to have good weather until 5pm then the rain came pouring down as we reached our fourth peak which was Ben Macdui.
“We left a pink rose for Mum at the top of each mountain and all wore something pink to feel her presence with us.”
The Strathy had reported last week how the Cairngorms 4000 was a particular challenge for Yasmin.
She said: “Considering I had a baby nine months ago, I am amazed at what I’ve accomplished. My brothers and I have created memories that will last a lifetime.
“Thank you to everyone who has kept our Mum’s memory alive, supported us and donated to the Highland Hospice.
“We are still gathering in donations but it looks like we might reach the £3,000 - including gift aid - mark from both online and offline donations.
Yasmin (32) was joined by brothers Martin (41) of Carrbridge; Jamie (38), who now lives in Stirling, and Ben (37), based in Edinburgh, for the fundraiser with dad Martin acting as taxi driver for the day.
They were assisted by friends from Scottish Mountain Rescue - where Yasmin works - to make sure all went well on the day.
Baby Jessica Rose’s middle name was given in honour of Caroline’s favourite flower.
Caroline passed away on August 31, 2014.
