Nairn County Football Club have hailed one of their youth players who helped battle this week’s wildfires around Dava.

Gordy Archer, who plays for the Highland League club’s under-18 side, helped out with others from the Seafield Estate in his native Grantown, spending over 12 hours on Monday trying to quell the fires.

Under-18 coach Kenny Spink said: “We are very proud of Gordy and his contribution to helping put out the fires.

“I am always asking our youth players to work with the local community and to put something back as it will benefit so many, and Gordy has gone above and beyond.”

Mr Archer is in his second season with the under-18 squad at Nairn, working hard to make an impression on the club’s first team management.
