Dalwhinnie’s village hall is clearly worth fighting for - and it can be great fun doing it.

That was the message on Saturday with a special six-hour fund-raising event full of good things.

“Even though the A9 wasn’t too busy we still had visitors who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and contributed to the cause,” confirmed Lesley Carr on behalf of the hall committee.

“We still raised £300 with a lot of goodwill and donations from our patrons.

“And I can also confirm that the coffee and cakes went really well. The tombola was very well supported, with every ticket winning a prize.”

The stalls were festooned with a wide variety of beautiful things, from Cairngorms sewing and embroidery items to ‘Debs at Dalwhinnie’ hand-knitted hats and hand-tooled wooden items.

Also available were second hand books, fresh flowers’ bouquets, home baking and, of course, Dalwhinnie distillery who supplied a wide range of gifts. There were clothes and seriously yummy Ian Burnett handmade chocolates.

Lesley said: “All in all, everybody enjoyed themselves and all visitors went on their way happy and fed.

“Our hall can now go forward to the next fund-raiser in September - and we need a lot of paint! - which is a talk by Hamish Brown, the eminent adventurer who will talk about his travels and expeditions.”
